Methodology

How the UK & Ireland search works

Your live location sets the search area, then we rank the nearest bright spots first.

1
Browser geolocation

We use your phone or browser permission only to calculate distance. Your coordinates never leave your device.

2
UK & Ireland area matching

England, Scotland or Wales → Great Britain. Northern Ireland → NI + Ireland. Ireland → Ireland + NI.

3
Live weather consensus

Three model feeds checked simultaneously: Open-Meteo best match, UK Met Office and ECMWF. Majority rule applied.

4
Distance ranking

Places ordered by on-device road-distance estimate. Google Maps links provided for each result.

About Proximity SunSeeker

Proximity SunSeeker is a free browser-based tool that helps you find the closest sunny place in the UK and Ireland right now. Whether you are stuck under grey skies in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, or Glasgow, simply share your location and the tool will check live weather across dozens of towns and cities — from Exeter and Brighton in the south to Inverness and Aberdeen in the north, and across to Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Belfast.

The tool covers all regions of Great Britain including England, Scotland, and Wales, as well as Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It uses three independent weather model feeds — Open-Meteo best match, the UK Met Office deterministic model, and ECMWF — and only shows a place as sunny when the majority of those sources agree. This consensus approach means fewer false positives.

All location data stays on your device. No coordinates are sent to any server. Proximity SunSeeker is built for anyone who wants to make the most of a dry day in the UK or Ireland — whether that is a spontaneous day trip, a walk on the beach, or simply escaping the clouds for a few hours.

Frequently asked questions

How does Proximity SunSeeker find sunny places near me?
Proximity SunSeeker uses your browser's geolocation to determine where you are, then checks live weather data from three models for dozens of towns and cities across the UK and Ireland. It ranks those places by estimated driving distance and shows you the closest ones confirmed as sunny or almost sunny today.
Does Proximity SunSeeker share or store my location?
No. Your coordinates never leave your browser. All distance calculations are performed locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server.
Which areas of the UK and Ireland does it cover?
If you are in England, Scotland or Wales, it searches across all of Great Britain. If you are in Northern Ireland, it searches Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. If you are in Ireland, it searches Ireland and Northern Ireland — covering dozens of cities including London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Dublin, Cork, and many more.
How accurate is the live weather data?
Proximity SunSeeker fetches data from three independent weather model feeds simultaneously and applies a majority-vote rule: a place is shown as sunny only when at least two of the three sources agree. This consensus approach reduces false positives.
What does "almost sunny" mean?
"Almost sunny" means mainly clear or partly cloudy conditions with low rain risk — cloud cover typically below 78% and minimal precipitation forecast. Still well worth the drive compared to heavy overcast or rain.
Can I use Proximity SunSeeker on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser on iPhone or Android. On iPhone, make sure Location Services is enabled and your browser is allowed to use your location. On Android, allow Location permission for your browser when prompted.
